Lukewarm?
Today while listening to a local talk show host I was reminded of the following scripture…
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm— neither hot nor cold— I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Revelation 3:15-16 NIV
During the show the host inquired about whether state Republicans should welcome in Democrats that may be expressing an interest in switching parties for the 2010 elections. The incumbent representatives and senators have seen and heard the outrage expressed during the tea parties, protests, and town hall meetings and have felt the heat and are now ready to get out of the kitchen and into the comfort of the Republican Party. In my state conservatism is the norm even if it is sometimes in the form of the “Old Time” Democrat Party.
My initial reaction to the question was... “Sure we should welcome them in, we must be winning their hearts and minds”. Then, with the help of the host, I shook myself into reality and started thinking things through properly. They are just trying to jump off the sinking ship onto the nearest rescue boat. Do we really want to dilute the raw, genuine conservatism that recently has been revived by welcoming in those that do not truly share conservative values?
I think that if true conservatism is the goal we must chose candidates that are genuinely “hot” for conserving our constitution and our liberty and avoid the dangers of becoming “lukewarm”.
